In recent years the truck and coach licencing category names have changed. HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) is now LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) and the names Class 1, 2, 3 have been renamed:
LGV C1 = Rigid truck/van over 3500kg upto 7500kg
LGV C1+E = Rigid truck/van over 3500kg upto 7500kg & Trailer
LGV C = Rigid truck from 7500kg upto 32,000kg
LGV C+E = Articulated or Drawbar truck up to the legal maximum of 44,000kg
New driver training regulations come in from the 10th of September 2009. Since 1997 in order to obtain an LGV C+E licence (Class 1 Artic) individuals must first pass the LGV C test (Class 2). This means you must take two tests to get a full HGV licence, 1st on a smaller rigid truck then 2nd on a larger articulated truck. |
