What is a C1+E Category Vehicle?
Answer: A lorry or truck that has a gross vehicle weight between 3500kg and 7,500kg with a trailer attached that has gross weight over 750kg. Examples include council road maintenance trucks towing plant trailers, recovery truck towing vehicles with a spec lift and basically small trucks towing trailers.
To be eligible to take this test you must be 18 years old or over, entitled to drive a C1 vehicle (check the reverse of your drivers licence) and take the following steps. If you don't have C1 on the reverse of your driving licence you need to take your driving test on this vehicle category LGV C1
Note: Skip steps 1-3 if you have passed the LGV C1 driving test by taking a driving test in a C1 truck/van after 1/1/1997.
1. Visit us for a drivers medical, currently £65, phone us to book an appointment. The Doctor is with us every two weeks, you can use your own doctor but the cost will vary between £60 and £200. ORDER the FORMS you will need.
2. Send off the forms we will give you to the DVLA with your driving licence. It will normally take around 3 weeks for your new licence with provisional LGV C1E category to return. Contact us once you receive it and you can visit us for an assessment/trial lesson. This will give you the opportunity to see what we have to offer and we can suggest the correct duration of driver training to suit your ability. If you cannot visit us for an assessment you could book an 'average' length course.
3. Book your theory tests online at www.gov.uk/book-theory-test , you will need to take - LGV Theory Test & LGV Hazard Perception, and if you intend to drive for 'hire and reward' you will need to take the LGV Case Studies if you passed your car driving test after 1/1/1997, contact us for advice if needed. You can either buy the Books and DVD's from us to revise to pass the theory tests or sign up with www.drivingtheory4all.co.uk
4. Once you have passed your theory tests then contact us to book your driver training course as suggested by the driving assessment or if you haven't had an assessment book a course duration you and ourselves feel 'happy' with and we will do our best to ensure you pass your LGV C1E Driving Test.
The driving test will last approximately 60 minutes, during which you will be required to complete a reversing exercise (see the picture below), uncouple from the trailer - then safely recouple the combination, then drive onto the roads during which you will complete uphill, downhill and angled starts, together with a controlled stop and moving away from the side of road in traffic.

To Laurie and Eddie,
A really big thankyou for getting me through my Category C, my CPC and my C+E. With your professional knowledge and expertise, I managed to pass all three tests on the first attempt.
This is an excellent company and I will be definitely be recommending the firm to friends and family who are thinking of doing their HGV, Bus licenses or even their CPC. Once again a really big thank you and all the best.
