Choosing a driver training vehicle isn't as easy as it looks, not just any vehicle will do for Tockwith Training, it will need to meet the Minimum Test Vehicle Requirements as set out by the DVSA.
It must be over a certain weight and capable of carrying the test load of 5 tons on a rigid vehicle and 8 tons on an articulated truck. The truck must not be shorter than a certain minimum length. It must also be a box sided type vehicle or curtainsider, not a flat bed. Fitted with ABS brakes, capable of 60mph, with MOT, tax, insurance and extra mirrors for the driving examiner's view down both sides of the truck.
Additional rules added recently include the requirement to be laden for the driving test, this has been standardised with a generic load. All driving schools have to place in their vehicles, five or eight depending truck category 1000ltr Intermediate Bulk Containers full of water. This has made the learning experience far more realistic, and now we can also use trucks with automatic gearboxes, but you will still gain a full manual licence.
You will have noticed there is no rule regarding the age of the vehicles, all our trucks are very modern but other schools do use very old trucks. There is also no maintenance schedule set out, just one yearly MOT, many driving school trucks are poorly maintained. IT'S A CASE OF BUYER BEWARE.
Our HGV Training fleet is certainly the most modern in
Yorkshire, perhaps even in the UK.
Our vehicles are safely laden with the required test loads as set out by the DVSA, they will not move or fall from the vehicle. There is a secondary headboard and webbing lashings direct to the floor to ensure your safety.
We have invested almost £600,000 in our training vehicles
since 2001, which demonstrates our commitment to YOU, the most important element of
